Nicola Acito is Associate Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Pisa. He received the Laurea degree (magna cum laude) in telecommunications engineering from the University of Pisa in 2001 and the Ph.D. degree in “Methods and technologies for environmental monitoring” from the University of Basilicata, in 2005. From 2009 to 2020 he was Assistant Professor at the Italian Naval Academy.
Since 2005, he has been involved in numerous teaching activities in the areas of statistical signal processing and remote sensing. He is a member of the board of the Ph.D. school of Information Engineering at the University of Pisa and has been tutor of several B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. theses at the University of Pisa.
Since 2021 he has directed the “Remote Sensing and Image Processing” research laboratory at the University of Pisa. Furthermore, it is a member of the research unit at the University of Pisa of the “Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni (CNIT)”. His research interests include topics related to remote sensing and image processing with particular attention to hyperspectral and multi-temporal data processing. His current research activity is focused the development and the analysis of machine learning and deep learning methods for the remote sensing applications. He is (co)author of more than 85 scientific publications in international journals and conference proceedings.
He has been involved in technical and management activities of several scientific projects concerning the development of processing techniques for the exploitation of remotely sensed data.
