Amerigo Capria
Head of Research Area
Amerigo Capria was born in Pisa, Italy in June 1977. He received the Italian Laurea degree (M.S.) in Telecommunication Engineering in March 2004 from the University of Pisa, Italy. From May 2004 to December 2004 he was a post-graduate research assistant for the National Interuniversity Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT) at the Department of Information Engineering – University of Pisa. In March 2008 he received the Ph.D. in Remote Sensing at the University of Pisa. At the same time he became a post-doc researcher at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Pisa until April 2009 when he became a CNIT researcher under contract. In April 2012 he became a CNIT permanent researcher at the RaSS (Radar and Surveillance Systems) National Laboratory in Pisa. From January 2017 he is a CNIT head of research at the RaSS Lab. Since 2004 he has been involved as a researcher in several projects funded by Italian ministries (e.g.: MoD, Ministry of Economic Development) and European organizations (e.g.: EU Commission, EDA, ESA). The research activities and the international collaborations developed in the framework of these projects have led to the publication of numerous scientific papers. He is co-founder of a radar systems-related spin-off company, namely ECHOES S.r.l. He is a co-author of more than 60 papers and three book chapters.
His major research interests are in the field of passive radar systems, HF-OTH radars, array processing, neural network applications in target classification, synthetic range profile reconstruction, weather radars signal processing, sea surface fractal modelling for environmental monitoring applications, space debris detection and design of fully digital radar based on photonic technologies.
