iFURTHER project reaches M30 milestone with consortium meeting in Pisa, hosted by our Lab.
Over the course of two intense days, the partners had the opportunity to review the progress made so far, share technical insights, and coordinate the next steps for the project’s ambitious objectives. The meeting also served as a valuable occasion to strengthen collaboration within the consortium and align on the future developments that will shape the final phases of iFURTHER.
About the project
Funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF), the iFURTHER project is dedicated to developing a cognitive network of high-frequency Over-The-Horizon (OTH) radars. This innovative approach aims to provide the EU with enhanced long-range, wide-area air and sea surveillance capabilities, going far beyond the limits of current systems.
By combining advanced radar technologies with collaborative networking and real-time cognitive management, iFURTHER’s shared goals include:
-
Detecting and tracking air and sea targets well beyond the horizon.
-
Extending radar coverage through a multistatic sensor network supported by dedicated synchronization and coordination infrastructure.
-
Introducing cognitive radar management to dynamically adapt operations to environmental conditions, such as changes in the ionosphere.
This disruptive concept for future defence will contribute to a more resilient and effective European surveillance capability.

A meeting with a special ending
This meeting was not only an opportunity for scientific and technical exchange, but also a chance to enjoy some time together outside the lab. After the sessions, participants were invited for a walk along the historic walls of Pisa, closing the event with a moment of networking and relaxation in a truly unique setting.
